All's Well That Ends Well

In All’s Well That Ends Well, Helena, the low-born daughter of a physician, secretly loves Bertram, the Count of Roussillon’s son. When Bertram becomes a ward of the French king, who is dying, Helena heals him and is granted her wish to marry Bertram. Bertram refuses the match and goes off to war, declaring he will only be her husband if she obtains his ring and bears his child. Helena follows him and, by secretly taking the place of a woman Bertram desires, fulfills both demands. Thought to be dead, she reappears pregnant, clears his name, and proves her worth. Bertram finally accepts her.
